The Girl Scout Law of the World

The Scouts stand in a circle or horseshoe with ten candles in the center, arranged in the form of a trefoil. As each girl representing a country steps forward to say one part of the Law, she lights one of the candles.

Narrator: February 22 is Girl Scout Thinking Day.  On this day, we celebrate the joint birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Boy Scouts in England, and his wife, Lady Olave.  Our founder, Juliette Gordon-Low, was a lifelong friend of Lord Robert and Lady Olave.   She founded Girl Scouts based on the Boy Scout program developed by Lord Baden-Powell.

On Thinking Day, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in every country gather to think of their Sisters around the world.  In our international family we are bound together by our Promise and Law.  To honor our Sisters around the world, we share the Law in the words of other countries.

1st Scout:
Finland -- A Girl Guide is loyal and respects the convictions of others.

2nd Scout:
Norway -- A Girl Guide is friendly to all and a good comrade.

3rd Scout:

Sweden -- A Girl Guide speaks the truth and keeps her word.

4th Scout:
Belgium -- A Girl Guide is always good-tempered.

5th Scout:

Luxembourg -- A Girl Guide has self-respect.

6th Scout:
Austria -- A Girl Guide sees God in nature and therefore protects plants and animals.

7th Scout:
Italy -- A Girl Guide is hardworking and thrifty, and takes care of other people’s property.

8th Scout:

Argentina -- A Girl Guide serves and helps other people without expecting reward or praise.

9th Scout:
Haiti -- A Girl Guide obeys without question and does nothing in halves.

10th Scout:
Australia -- A Girl Guide is grateful and courteous.

Narrator: These are the words of our Law.  We follow and live by these words bringing light to the world, just as our candles bring light to the room.  We honor the spirit of all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on this Thinking Day.
