What is Super Troop??

The Super Troop/Group patch program is an excellent tool for troops to use when planning their program year.  Because the patch program requires activities that reflect the uniqueness of the Girl Scout program, the troop/group creates its own well-rounded program. The process girls use in selecting an activity is as important as the activity participation.  The "how" of the girls planning, carrying out, and evaluating the activity and the assurance of girl/adult partnership is the intent of the Super Troop/ Group patch program.

Does...fulfill Super Troop/Group?

Does this question sound familiar?  Here are some ways to help a leader and you figure out if the activity fulfills Super Troop/Group.

CAUTION: This list is a tool and does not have "all" the answers.  Remember to ask yourself these questions with the understanding that the activity should be appropriate to the girls' age level.

Some general questions:

1.  Did the girls plan the activity?  How??

examples:

  Did they use a form of troop/group governance??

  Did they use an idea house?

  Did they brainstorm?

  Did they divide up tasks and responsibilities?

  Did they decide who to invite or where they wanted to go??

  Did they help decide how much of troop/group funds would go towards the activity?

  Did the girls help decide what they would do to prepare for the activity?

2.  Did the girls carry out the activity?  How?

examples:

  Did they invite the guest or speaker?

  Did they confirm the site?

  Did they do the activity with your guidance?

  Did they cook the meal, as opposed to you cooking the meal for them.

3.  Did the girls evaluate the activity? How?

examples:

  Do you know what they thought of it?

  Did they discuss what they liked and what they would improve?

  Did you hear from everyone who wanted to share an opinion?

  Would they do it again?

  Did they learn something new? What did they learn?
