DAKOTA SERVICE UNIT OCTOBER 2007 MEETING MINUTES

 ·        As of October 1, we are no longer part of the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley.  We will now be Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys.  5 Councils will be combined as ONE.  Do not change any bank account info until we hear more.  The council is hoping to have complete directions for a smooth transition.  Do not open any troop accounts or make changes until Council has forwarded the information

   ·        Troop numbers will be changing to 5-digits with “5” added to the beginning of all troop numbers (if you have a 3-digit number “50” will be added).

The patch numbers “5” and “0” and the Council patches will be available at the November and January Leader meetings. They are available in between the meetings from Trish Corey. After January, these patches are no longer “free” and will need to be purchased at Council shop.

·        Investiture and Rededication and Ceremonies

This is a great time of year to do these with your troop.  The ceremonies reaffirm the Girl Scout Promise and The Law.  Kathy Dierkes would love to come to a meeting and teach a ceremony.  You can also visit the website (see address below) for a link to ceremonies.  Don’t forget our Dakota Service Unit has a library with many useful resources (including a book on ceremonies) – check out www.eagangirlscouts.org

·        If you aren’t getting emails from Doreen Gloede – email her at dgloede@comcast.net

·        Under My Wing Leader Mentor Program/Sister Troop Opportunities

If you are a leader looking for some ideas from another leader who has been in your shoes – the mentor program is for you!  If you would like to help another leader and/or collaborate with a leader – the mentor program is for you!  Check out the website for more info

·        Super Troop – Coordinator: Cheryl Seely

This is GREAT patch to earn with your troop.  This patch helps make sure you plan a “well rounded” year. Information and Cheryl’s contact information is located on the website. Completed applications are due May 31.

·        Super Sonic Bowling – Grades 6-12  AND Invite a Friend

Sunday, October 28 @ Burnsville Bowl 6-8 pm.  Registered girls are encouraged to bring a friend to show her how much fun Scouting can be.  Please send Doreen or Trish pictures of your older girls to be included on the bulletin board they are making.  The bulletin board will highlight some of the fun things older girls do with Girl Scouts.

·        Junior Wildlife Badge @ Lebanon HillsAdd’l date added for Thursday, Nov. 1st from 5-7.  Call Amy Stoval 651-452-8614, if interested in joining them.

·        Annual Giving Dessert Auction:  Sunday, November 18 2:30-4:30 @ Blackhawk Middle School.  NOTE TIME CHANGE!  If you haven’t attended, please consider attending this year.  It’s a chance for the girls to experience a “real auction with a real auctioneer”.  Please also consider getting your troop together to bake items.  As always there will be prizes for various cake decorating categories.

We still need an Annual Giving Coordinator.  Please consider this position.  Nancy Gagne has everything you could possibly need in a 3-ring binder.  For those of not familiar with Nancy – she was the 1st FSCS coordinator – she’s extremely organized and will help you with anything you need.
